The folk group I am analyzing is the makeup artist community and how they have adapted their ways of self expression since Covid arose. This form of customary folklore is performed in people’s homes within their art studios,  usually being filmed for sharing online. It is performed for an audience’s entertainment and sometimes for their education. Some makeup artists simply film tutorials for their own enjoyment and some film them to educate their viewers. The way this genre of folklore conveys people’s identities is through aesthetics. Makeup artists use shapes and shadows to convey their identities and feelings. I want to talk about how makeup artists have had to transition to more eye makeup looks rather than full face looks due to mask wearing.
