ANTH 452 - My Study of Expressive Culture
By Emma Coleman
An Overview
With the rise of COVID-19, many makeup artists and drag queens were displaced, with nowhere to apply their skills. In-person events became unsafe as these artists searched for a way to still express their culture. While many found outlets and ways to make money like through YouTube and Instagram, they still needed to adapt. "To what?", you may ask. Masks cover half of our faces, and while they are incredibly necessary, they pose an issue with self expression. This site explores the ways in which makeup artists have shifted their skills to still capture an onlooker's eye.
